From time to time I scavenge off-cuts and washed up pallet wood and make quirky houses. This keeps the creativity flowing while I'm looking for just the right bit of driftwood to join to the one I've been carrying about in my collecting pouch for ages hoping to turn into a bird or a whale or...whatever it wants to be. Over the years I've sold the tiny houses to raise money for my local homeless charity 'SHARE' who do amazing work supporting homeless people both here and in camps in Europe.
Map houses. Sold to raise money for a local homeless charity.
This piece is called 'Made in Wales' because of the tiny piece of tile I've used. When my friends go on holiday, they don't bring me tea towels or fridge magnets, they bring me 'stuff' they find on the beach, like this piece of tile. Now that I've wiped it over with my favourite gold rubbing paste, you can see the words 'IN WALES' . I've mounted it on a lovely gnarled piece of driftwood and laid one of my little hand carved boats on the 'foreshore'. The house has windows and a door made from metallic sheet. The roof is covered in leather from an old leather-topped desk. It's 15 x 9 x 10 cm SOLD!
This little rough and rustic house with its orange roof is mounted on a lovely golden piece of driftwood I found washed up on Rhyl beach. It has a gently sloping 'foreshore' and a 'tree' made from a damson 'pip'. I built the boat myself. Yes, I'm also a master boat builder! It's attached to the 'mooring' bollard by a bit of chain from an old necklace. I've swiped over the whole piece with some satin varnish so it's easier to dust...personally, I just blow any dust I see, if I happen to see it! It's 16x8x9 cm. SOLD!
